Intermediate sessions for actor / dancers within Spiderflower's Swedish community open space to focus a little more, dive a little deeper and find a steady and progressive rhythm for 2019 / 2020.

The Ongoing Group for Stockholm provides a light foundation course in Spiderflower's dance movement theatre approach.  Travelling through a course of 7 weekend sessions, carefully placed over a 1 year cycle.

The ONGOING GROUP is a closed group and is taught in English.

It is important dancers attend all sessions in succession.

THE GROUP & INTENT

​

The Ongoing Group forms an intimate, dedicated group to work with focus on the fine detail of Spiderflower's dance movement form and holding structures to bridge into theatre and performance technique.

​

This is for committed actor / dancers who have experience within Spiderflower and want to work with continuum in order to deepen their knowledge and experience, whilst expanding their movement repertoire within a regular practice.

COURSE CONTENT

​

DANCE MOVEMENT: Steady repetition of Spiderflower's core principles within the dance form will strengthen a dancers movement technique over the course of the year.  

​

THE EARTH CYCLE + SPIDERFLOWER'S 8 POINT WHEEL:  The course is rooted within Spiderflower's wheel, following the earth cycle over the year we change theme and focus each time we meet.  The earth cycle is the basis and bedrock of all Spiderflower's teaching,  The Ongoing Group is designed to give the dancer a thorough understanding.

The cycle as a whole travels through the dynamics of creation, and so opens space to explore the complex inter-relationship existent between body, human life-cycle and earth cycles as they weave together as part of the course content.  This is powerful element within the course and will naturally challenge participants to move into uncharted territory.

​

THEATRE + PERFORMANCE:  A specially chosen theatre piece is integrated into the cycle and is chosen at the start of the course as a response to the chemistry of the group.  Theatre technique, to include; the use of space and place, the ensemble, storytelling, characterisation and relationship with the audience are all taught at foundation level.  2017/18 focused on the language of GESTURE through Shakespeare and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.

WORK-SHARE:  Our final module culminates in a work-share where the group present their work-in-progress with a short performance to the public.  This is an important part of the learning process and offers a great opportunity for participants.

​

PREPARATION + INTEGRATION:  Written course work is given in-between modules so actor / dancers can get the very most from the course and is designed to support participants through the year cycle. Preparation is set prior to each module, integration follows on after each session.

​

Dancers who have experienced Spiderflower previously will understand that the course is likely to open out a transformative process on a personal as well as professional level.

PRE-REQUISITES & ENTRY

​

ENTRY:  For entry into The Ongoing Group actor / dancers must be registered with Spiderflower, have completed at least 1 evening dance with Spiderflower as a minimum, and have some experience within theatre or dance. 

​

APPLICATION:  Actor / dancers are required to fill out an application form prior to acceptance onto the course, once received, Spiderflower will talk their application through in person.  Participants must understand the importance of completing all modules in succession, and there needs to be a fit between themselves and the work.  Please see BOOKING for details on how to apply.

FUTURE WORK

​

The Ongoing Group compliments deeper dance intensives such as; Foundation Course (Part 1) BEING HUMAN: (Or The Vulnerable Magician), THE FLOWER DRUM or THE TABOOED LABYRINTH.

2021 sees the 1 Year Foundation Course (Part 2), THE RIVER THAT FINDS US begin in April.

​

The Ongoing Group is also good for actor / dancers interested in taking the dance up to performance level with Spiderflower and becoming a company member.
